The Sarah Jane Adventures 3.01 and 3.02 Prisoner of the Judoon
First of all, the entire last week I didn't get my email notifications from lj about comments on my journal. Though curiously enough I did get them for my comments on other people's journals. This is still the case. Does that happen to anyone else right now or am I the only one whom lj has it in for?

Secondly, hooray for the return of Sarah Jane and friends!

Elisabeth Sladen is clearly enjoying herself immensely playing Androvax (spelling); when Sarah Jane was taken over by evil aliens in olden times, she used to be a lot more zombie like as I recall. (Btw, was Planet of the Spiders the first of these incidents or did I miss one?). The ensembleness of s2 continues as we get various mixed team-ups - Sarah Jane and Clyde, Clyde and Rani, Luke and Sarah Jane, all three kids together - instead of the s1 format where mostly it was Sarah Jane and Maria in one plot and the boys in the other. With all respect to s1, this is pleasing to me. Also that Sarah Jane continues the apprentice thing with Clyde. And that Haresh and Gita got their own subplot, proudly defending their title of sole happily married and nice parents of the Whoverse while they were at it. Mind you, they must have missed the tv reports on the hospital abduction from Smith and Jones if the Judoons are news to them, but then again the hospital people were only able to give descriptions, not photos.

Speaking of the Judoons, they work well in the children's tv format as a satire on police men while it's also made clear that cops are actually needed. And Phil Ford has as much fun with the Judoon language as RTD had. Our villain of the hour joins the ranks of "last-of-species" characters which in this 'verse are usually bound to encounter a certain guest star this show will have later on, so I wonder whether he'll be back...

A really enjoyable season start.
